BACKGROUND INFORMATION
Ryan Hanley were appointed by the Office of Public Works (OPW) to carry out an Environmental Assessment of the proposed Lifford Flood Relief Scheme, while RPS were appointed as Engineering Consultants. The second Public Consultation Day (PCD) was held in the Old Courthouse, Lifford on Thursday the 28th November 2024 between 1pm and 8pm.
The objective of the PCD was to introduce the preferred option of the Flood Relief Scheme and to gather any feedback and comments from stakeholders and the public which is essential in achieving the overall project objective. The main project objective is to implement a flood relief scheme for Lifford town that is technically, socially, environmentally and economically acceptable, to alleviate the risk of flooding to a determined “Standard of Protection” and to procure, manage and oversee the construction of that scheme. Taking into account the outcomes of the North Western – Neagh Bann Catchment Flood Risk Assessment and Management (CFRAM) Study, the team has configured and assessed several options from which selection of the preferred scheme design is now proposed to provide a robust level of protection against fluvial flooding in Lifford.
